THE HELPER

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. (John 16:7)

In my previous article titled, Unravelling the identity of the spirit of truth, Periklytos or Ahmad, I attempted to explain who the periklytos is. This current topic can be seen as a continuation of that article. However, the distinction here is that we will focus on the attributes of the periklytos, referred to as the helper in the gospel according to John in the King James Version. For clarity and simplicity, I will use the term helper in this article.

Christians believe that the helper is the Holy Spirit, while Muslims believe that the helper is Ahmad or Muhammad. The question arises: who is correct?

The only way to answer this question is by examining the details about the helper. I have already cited a verse in the gospel of John 16:7, where the helper is mentioned. This verse has offered a crucial detail..

Consider the first verse.

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the helper will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7.

The details here are clear: If I do not go away, the helper will not come to you. In other words, Jesus meant that the helper would come only after he had left. This is the truth of the matter. Christians emphasize that the helper is the Holy Spirit, without considering that the helper would come after Jesus ascended. Emphasizing that the helper is the Holy Spirit contradicts Jesus' statement: If I do not go away, the helper will not come to you. In fact, the Holy Spirit was present before and during the time of Jesus. Consider the evidence below.

THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS PRESENT BEFORE THE COMING OF JESUS

Brothers, the passage of the scriptures had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit speaking through David foretells the fate of Jesus... Acts 1:16

And His father Zachariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied saying... Luke 1:67

And the angel answered her (Mary), The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Mark 1:32

THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS PRESENT DURING THE TIME OF JESUS.

Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left Jordan... Luke 4:1

After saying this, he breathed on them and said, receive the Holy Spirit... John 20:20

These verses provide sufficient evidence that the helper prophesied by Jesus cannot be the Holy Spirit, as the Holy Spirit was present before Jesus' coming and also during his time. Claiming that the helper is the Holy Spirit contradicts Jesus' words.

THE HELPER WILL COME AFTER JESUS HAS LEFT

...But if I do go my way, I will send him to you.

This verse indicates that the helper will come after Jesus has left: But if I do go my way, I will send Him to you... Muslims assert that the helper is Muhammad, as he is the only prophet who came after Jesus, approximately six hundred years after Jesus' ascension. The Holy Quran also confirms that Muhammad would come after Jesus. Consider the following verse.

And remember, Jesus the son of Mary said, O children of Israel, I am the Apostle of God sent to you, confirming the law which came before me, and giving glad tidings of an Apostle to COME AFTER ME, whose name shall be AHMAD. Quran 61:6.

This is solid proof that the helper is Muhammad since he came after Jesus, unlike the Holy Spirit, who was present before Jesus. When Muslims emphasize that the helper is Muhammad, it is due to this and other verses that will be discussed in this article.

The Helper Shall Glorify Jesus.

"He shall Glorify me...

Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) was sent to the children of Israel, but they rejected him and did not accept him as their prophet. They even went so far as to claim he was illegitimate. Ultimately, they plotted to kill him by crucifixion, despite knowing that a crucified person is considered cursed by God. Christians also believe that Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) was crucified and died a cursed death on the cross for the sins of humanity. However, the truth is that the crucifixion was a conspiracy by Jesus' enemies that never occurred.

"And we cursed them for their disbelief and their saying against Maryam (Mary) a great slander."

And for their saying, "Indeed we have killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Maryam, the messenger of Allah" and they did not kill him.... Quran 4:156-157

When our Holy Prophet (May the peace and blessings be upon him) came, he revealed that their statements against Maryam were false and a great slander, affirming that Maryam was a purified person:

"Indeed Allah, has chosen you, and purified you"....Q: 5:75

And her son was

..A pure boy....Q:19:19

And not illegitimate as the Jews claimed, and that:

...They did not kill him... meaning he was not cursed.

Some verses in the Holy Bible have shown disrespect towards Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him), for instance, some passages state that Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) referred to his own mother as "woman" and labeled Gentiles as "dogs" and "swine."

When our Holy Prophet (May the peace and blessings be upon him) came, he revealed that Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him)

was dutiful to his mother.... and..... was not arrogant. 19:32

This indicates that he neither called his own mother "woman" nor referred to Gentiles as "dogs" and "swine." These teachings from the Noble Quran show that Muhammad (May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) honored Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) as stated:

..."he shall glorify me...

Therefore, Muhammad (May the peace and blessings be upon him) is the helper prophesied by Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) since he brought glory to him by affirming his prophethood against the Jews' denial, declaring Maryam a purified woman, stating that the Jews did not kill him and thus he was not cursed, and asserting that Jesus (May the peace and blessings be upon him) was dutiful to his mother and not arrogant. Therefore, the helper must be Muhammad (May the peace and blessings be upon him).
